The BEST vegan milkshake

This cinnamon milkshake is a healthy alternative to the typical ice cream and dairy milkshake.  It is simple – only three ingredients, quick to throw together and absolutely delicious.  Less is more here, you don’t need extra ingredients to make this one taste any better! This is an easy banana milkshake that is comprised of only frozen bananas, dairy-free plant-based creamer and cinnamon flavoring.

This vegan milkshake comes out ice cold, sweet, creamy, milky and hits the spot every time.  There is absolutely no way you could tell that this isn’t a real dairy milkshake.  The Nut Pod’s creamer tastes just like the real thing.  It provides all of the creamy, milky goodness that this sweet banana shake commands.

This is the best milkshake recipe if you’re looking for an absolutely delicious milkshake experience but want it to be healthy and completely guilt free.  Although this is a healthy milkshake and is so incredibly simple and easy- it tastes as though it could pass as any custard milkshake, old fashion milkshake, fancy milkshake or extreme milkshakes recipe.

I always make this banana milkshake recipe in the summer afternoon or early evening when I am hankering for something sweet, cold and refreshing.  This is the ultimate simple banana milkshake that resembles a classic vanilla shake or even a honey milkshake.  When you add this diy milkshake to your go-to healthy snack list you can feel good about drinking as much as you would like or even as a meal replacement for breakfast! Since the primary ingredient or the ‘base’ is made from bananas you may think of this as a smoothie milkshake.

There are so many ways to enjoy this homemade milkshake, it is a versatile base for many occasions and situations.  You could turn this into a cook out milkshake and add your favorite alcohol to make a boozy version, that will be a crowd pleaser for sure.

Making a Milkshake

Good milkshakes are started with good ingredients, so make sure that the bananas are fully ripened before peeled and frozen.  Bananas are ripe and ready to consume when they are speckled with small brown spots on the outside skin.  There are plenty of different combinations of dairy-free plant milks that can be used to make this recipe such as almond milk milkshakes, homemade cashew cream or made with canned coconut cream.  I choose to use the store bought brand of creamer from Nut Pod’s that happens to be a combination of coconut and almond because it is the most realistically close to real cream as I have found.  I love the taste and think it makes the most neutral flavored and creamy milkshake.

Bananas are an inexpensive food at only 99 cents per pound for organic.  This is a great recipe for cookout milkshakes as you can make a ton of it for a bunch of people and keep on a budget.

The real surprise and delight for me with this milkshake recipe is the subtle yet striking cinnamon flavor.  It complements the cream, cold and refreshing nature of this drink perfectly.  It’s a subtle surprise but leaves you impressed.  I use this specific brand of cinnamon flavor concentrate(Fronteir) because it is powerful and you don’t need to use much – just a small amount will do. And be careful with the pour because it come and quick and heavy!

Notes:

The more ripe the bananas are, the longer they take to freeze and the less frozen they may become.  This is because as the bananas ripen, the natural sugars mature and break down resulting in a higher glucose content. Foods with a higher glucose (natural sugar) content do not freeze as well.

I will link the Nut Pod’s creamer that I love and used for this recipe, as well as the vanilla flavoring incase you cannot find one or either of them at your local store.

Health Benefits:

This is truly a healthy version of the classic vanilla milkshake.  You can drink this vanilla shake as often as you like and even for breakfast and not even worry about it!

Bananas- Critical brain food that can refuel your mind and pick you up when feeling low.  They are mostly water and are packed with vitamins and minerals.  If your feeling a crash they are the ultimate pick-me-up food and will quickly stabilize your blood sugar, mood and energy.  They have tons of vitamin C, B vitamins, potassium and with their high water/vitamin content they are a perfect food to balance your electrolytes.  With that, bananas are great for people on the run, busy moms, athletes and people asking their brain to be highly focused for long periods of time.  Bananas are also great for building muscles, as they are filled with amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins.  One of the notable amino acids found in bananas is tryptophan which helps promote sleep. Along with all of these performance based benefits bananas are also a powerful health food due to strong antiviral and antibacterial properties.
