Old Fashion Maple Donuts
These maple glazed donuts are cakey, soft, light and chewy. They happen to be both gluten and dairy free and baked instead of fried! With being such a healthy alternative to the traditional donut, this is still a delicious and fully enjoyable treat. I felt very much satisfied with these donuts and it was a great success in my books. Sometimes when making a recipe into gf, df or deviating from a tradition cooking method at all, there can be a sacrifice and the end result is just “off”. But there is no sacrifice in this recipe, I know you will love this version of maple glazed donuts.
Traditional maple donuts have a more bread like interior – something close to a sweet bread. This makes for a light, chewy and cake like experience and although this recipe does feel both light and chewy it resembles more of a cake than a bread. If you have had maple donut cake before it may remind you of that. If you know and love an old fashion donut, this will be up your ally as it resembles more of an old fashion maple donut than one you would find at Krisp Kremes, Dunkins or another mainstream donut shop.
This baked version of donuts is incredibly easy to make. I was actually surprised how simple and easy it was. If you are like me and sometimes think making desserts such as donuts can be intimidating or complicated – this is the recipe for you! These donuts also came out looking so beautiful(so hard to choose which photos to use because they all look SO good!).
If you’re looking for a maple frosting for donuts that is incredibly quick and easy, this is it! It is only two ingredients: confectionary sugar and real maple syrup. With a quick whisk, these two ingredients melt in to a creamy and thick glaze that is easy to dip and coat the donuts in.
This is a fantastic baked goods recipe and I hope you enjoy these homemade maple glazed donuts!

The Nut Pod’s Cream I used for this recipe: Nut Pods Creamer.
This maple donut recipe is great because the leftover donuts taste good for days, where as most other donuts are best the day they are made fresh and tend to become less enjoyable or even inedible after the first day.
-Maple donut glaze recipe: I did not have a hard time with my donut glaze hardening but it is summer time and it was a very hot day. If this does happen to you, you can try a quick reheat over a double boiler or in the microwave. This incredibly simple and easy maple donut frosting recipe has enough maple flavor but you could always add additional maple flavoring extract if you want an aggrandized maple flavor. I think just the simple two-ingredient version I listed above is the best maple glaze for donuts but if you’re looking to recreate a store bought maple donut, adding the extra flavor may be what you’re looking for. There are plenty of variations of maple icing recipe for donuts if you try this recipe, let me know what you think and if you altered it in any way and have feedback I should know.
-Cleaning tip* Rinse the bowl that the frosting was in because this maple topping for donuts will harden and need soaking to re-melt the glaze.
-Maple donuts baked instead of fried are a much healthier alternative as you omit the unfavorable vegetable oil saturation. You could also try using the air fryer method.
-Cook the donuts until reach a golden brown color.
Alternative and toppings:
There are many popular toppings for maple donuts, nuts such as walnuts and pecans are delicious on top of these donuts. Bacon has become a popular trend – you can crumble or cut up bacon into almost a dust and sprinkle it on top. It gives a salty element to the sweet dessert. I suppose it is the same idea of dipping your breakfast sausage in the maple syrup from your pancakes, which I am a big fan of!
