Old Fashioned Applesauce Recipe (topped with cashews, sweet cream & bourbon maple syrup)

Equipment

  • Hand-held immersion blender optional

Ingredients

  • 12 apples (for varieties- notes)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup sugar or other sweetener 
  • 1 tablespoon ground Ceylon cinnamon 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional toppings for a balanced breakfast: Roasted cashews, sweet cream and maple syrup

Instructions 

  • Wash and peel all the apples then cut them up into small squares.
  • Place the apples and the rest of the ingredients in a large pot, bring to medium-high heat. When the apples begin to boil turn it down to low and cook for 20 minutes.  After they are cooked and resembling a chunky sauce, mash them to break them further or use a hand-held immersion blender to smooth out.  
  • Pictured is a balanced breakfast where we added turmeric ginger roasted cashews, sweet cream, bourbon maple syrup and an extra sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
